FINAL GALLOPS AT LEVIN

Final gallops for the Levin meeting on Saturday took place locally yesterday morning and among the best were Tideen and Foxtonian. First out were High Tension and Carmelita, who travelled in good style over five furlongs. Carmelita^ failed to bridge the gap established early, and her trial ' was disannointinK. High Tension was not

at home on the hard going, and if rain does not fall before Saturday his prospects may not be very bright. A good gallop over four furlongs went to Lord Victor, .who clocked 51 secs. for the journey. Working over five furlongs, Foxtonian (Kay) clocked 40 secs. for the last three. He is fairly well forward. Grey Plume (Frost) was drawing away from Pollux (Farland) at the conclusion of a five furlong sprint taking 1 min. 4 secs. Walk Off (Frost) ran seven furlongs in 1 min. 37 secs., taking 39 2/5 secs. for the last three. His second at Rangitikei suggests that he is improving. Bearing a very bright appearance, Vale Rosa (Johnson) was taken over seven furlongs, clocking 39 secs. for the last three. His recent efforts have been disappointing, but his home track may prov.e to be an advantage to him. Sheilwyn (Kay) and Tideen (Johnson) were paired over a mile and a-quarter. The pace was easy for the first four furlongs, but it increased at the sixth. They covered the last four in 52 2/5 secs., taking 25 3/5 for the last two. Tideen worked attr^ctively. C. Mora's two fillies by Kentucky from Secret Mission and by Haughty Rival from an unknown mare were worked on the "inside track. L. Allen has an attractive looking filly by Solicitor-General from Hunting Song, and it seems a likely sort. Regal Gem, winner of the Desert Stakes at'" Trentham last month, has broken down and is now resting. He will retura to work soon, but will miss the New Zealand Oaks for which he was -an early favourite.
