Though only three horses of the 31 to contest the Melbourne Cup wero bred in New Zealand, Dominion breeders scored a triumph when two of them, Hiraji and Fresh Boy, finished first and second, respeetively. Hiraji, owned by miilionaire sportsman Mr. F. W. Hughes, is a grey four-year-old by Nizami (son of Firdaussi and the flying filly Mumtaz Mahal) from Duvaeh, by the champion sire Foxbridge from fdunny Song, by Hunting Song from Sunny Roe, by Sunny Lake from Merry Roe, one of the best fillies racing just over thirty years ago. Fresh Boy, who finished second, is by Revelation (by^ Manna) from Racefox, by Foxbridge from Vera Acre, by Acre.
