Personal Mr. Ian Morton is at present relieving at tji&. Bank of New Zealand in Levin. The death occurred at the Palmerston North Hospital last night of Mr. Tom Smith, a well-known resident of Otaki. Mr. Smith, who was 76 years of age, was highly respected and was a prominent member of the Otaki Bowling Club. Ministerial approval to the appointment of Miss D. Caldwell as matron of the Otaki Sanatorium was received at .a meeting of the Western Districts' Joint Sanatorium Committee in Otaki yesterday. Miss Caldwell is a former matron of Gonville Sanatorium and the appointment was made to fill the vacancy cause'd by the resignation of Miss M. F. Smith, who has accepted the position . of matron of the Cashmere Sanatorium. Absentees from School As the result of the recent visit of the circus to Otaki, no less than 107 children were absent from the State School the following day.
