EIGHTEENTH BIRTHDAY
REIKORANGI- WAIKANAE W.I. Tlie Reikorangi-Waikanae Women's Institute celebrated its eighteenth birthday recently. A most enjoyable time was spent by members and. friends, the hall being tastefully decorated with bowls of irises and yellow genista. The president, Mrs. Deakin, expressed much pleasure when welcoming Mrs. Downer and ten members of che Wellington Pioneer Musieal Circle, who entertained with a programme of vocal solos and choruses. At the conclusion each performer was presented with an armful of spring flowers. Mrs. Downer, in her reply, said that she and her fellow members had derived great pleasure from being able to assist. When afternoon tea had been served, the secretary of the Southern Wellington Federation, Mrs. Eggers, was called upon to light the candles on the large and elaborately-decorated cake. After this ceremony had been performed and goo'd wishes had been conveyed to the president, the cake was dismantled and proved to be a 22 lb. food parcel for a link institute in England. Competitions were won by Mesdames Kerrigan and A. K. Monk. A bring-an'd-buy stall was also added to the funds
