HORSES FOR LEVIN RACES IN TRIALS

♦ Awapuni borses will race at Levin and at Stratford, and the conditions were good for tbe semi-final gallops yrbicb took place on the trial grass or the plough, both.of which were fast. Among the best efforts on the trial grass were those of Voltaic over five, Theiolyn over seven, and Mesalliance and Legendre over a mile. Thimble and G-ay Stroller were others to work over a mile, hui neither was against the watch except over the last two furlongs. The outstanding gallop on the plough was that of Broiefield, Yasda and Langue d'Or over a mile. First to gallop were Horouta (V. J. Sellars) and Sea Fury (J. Gartli). They slipped over five in 1.6 2-5, just breaking 40 for the last three. They worked really well. Next out were their stablemates, Broiefield' (Sellars), Yasda (Garth) and Langue d'Or (D. Harris). They went away from the top of the straight, and with lra*sda and Broiefield in front and under a good hold they ' rau the first three furlongs in 43. Langue d'Or was tailed olf early but he was only two leugths away at the three, reaehed in 1.9 3-5. The three were travelling well there and they rau home in 40 2-5 to co.mplete in 1.50. At the post Broiefield had his head in front of Yasda but both were going smoothly. Another interesting trial on the plough was that of Yandra (W. L. Aitken) and Glen Urquhart (Garth). They rau seven in 1.37 3-5 and Yandra. under a hard hold to be with Glen Urquhart at the linish, looked as if she could have improved upon the time quite a lot. Xlesalliance (A. Bowness) and Fairhome (J. Harris) worked very kindly over a mile on the trial grass and their time, under their light weiglits, was the best of the morning over the distance. 1 They were off ihe mark smartly to- . gelher and after running the first five in 1.7 2-5 they were home in better than 40 to coiuplete in 1.46 2-5. It was a good gallop. Theiolyn (D. Aniey) and Legendre (.J. Hely) in another good trial were home from the three in 39 4-5 to cover seven in 1.33 4-5. Gay Stroller ' (S. Waddell) travelled deccptively fast during his work-out and at uo stage did he appear to oe going fast euough to cover the last six m 1.20 3-5 or the lu'st three in 40 3-5. Thimble ( Yf . J. Brougliton) travelled at about 16 to the furlong to the threefurlong peg, and with the pace on only 1 for the last two furlongs he covered a mile in 1.53, the last three in 41. Yoltaic (Broughton) spr'inted five furlongs aiul was home from the three in 33 4-5 to complete in 1.5 4-5. He is likely to race at Feilding before going to Riccarton. Blank Cheque (Harris) was timed to run seven in 1.36 3-5, the last three in 40 3-o. Tmlor Chiof (trainer up) worked pnc-e ; round, .breaking -ti ;Jor tlfpt last three- of seven in 1.35. •' . Commercial (Harris) did siiuilar work and he broke 40 for the last three. Little Steve ( Broughton ) cut liye out in 1.6 1-5, and Sly Gold (A. G. Waddell ) and Kelmont (R. Saunders) sprinted half a mile in 52. Emerge (I. Cole) was going stron-glv at the end of a round, the last six taking 1.22 3-5,. aud the last three 40 1-5. Other gallops on the trial grass included. those of Gay Fellow (A. )Y:iddell) and Xewel Post (S. Waddell), three in 39.- 4';5, and Epe.cial'ist (A. Grrttith) hnd Kiiig Regeut (R. >Saunders), 39 3-5 for the last three of four. Other gallops on the plough were those of Fox Flame (Aitken) and Bly Robin, five in 1.9; Cinereous, six in 1.25 3-5; aud Pliosphene (A. Bain) and Lucy Biun (Bellars), six in 1.27 3-5.
