Received Monday, 8.30 p.m. NANKING, Nov. 3. President Chiang Kai-shek, on his return to Nanking from Kuling today, sent a personal message to the Kirin garrison teliing them "to defend the citv to the last". According to di.spatches Teaching N'anking, the battle for Kirin is rapidlv Teaching a climax. The Communists ■are reported to have made further gains and captured the town of Ftuu'han, six miles south of Ivirin after a two-day artillery duel. Governnient warplanes are flying supplies to the beleaguered eity.
