BUCKLEY GOLF CLOSING

MANY VISITORS PRESENT The weather was ideal for the closing of the Buckley Golf Cluh's 1947 season, which took place yesterday. The links were in perfect condition and members were very sorry to have to close their golfing activities. During the afternoon tea interval, the president, Mr. R. s. Downes, took the opportunity of extending a welcome to the many visitors from neighbouring clubs. Mr. Downes said that those connected with golf always looked to closing day with certain regrets, as it meant putting their clubs aside for six months and this was a very hard thing for a golfer to do. The club had had a very successful season, both socially and financially, and this was due to the hard work of many . , members. ) that this was the first season that an organised ladies' day had been held, and froin all reports this had been very successful from the lady members' point of view, Mr. Downes concluded by extending the thanks of the club to Mrs. C. Stern and Mr. V. Picard, two members who had been a tower of strength in assisting the club throughout the season. The trophies won during the season were then presented by Mrs. S. L. Graham, captain of the ladies' section. They were as follows: — l . Men. — Buckley senior championship: J. Mabey; runner-up: E. T, Wilson. Junior championship: H. Stern; runner-up^ F. Picard. C grade championship: J. Baker; runner-up: C. Booker. Goldfinch and Cousins' Cup: J. Mabey. Stroke competition: H. Karena. Stableford: J. Mabey; Eclectic: W. Stern. Bogey: W. Stern and E. Homer. Picard Bros. Cup: D. Purcell. Monthly medals: B. Harris, H. Stern, D. Purcell, S. GledhiU, E. .T. Wison, j. Baker and J. Mabey. Ladies' trophies. — Senior championship: Mrs. H. Pope; runner-up: Mrs. W. C. Higgie. Junior championship: Mrs. H. Stern. C grade championship: Mrs, R. H. Charter. Eclectic: Mrs. H. Pope. Stroke: Mrs. Charter. Handieap competition: Mrs. H. Pope. Bogey: Mrs. H. Stern. Stableford: Miss P. Stern. L.G.U. medal: Miss P. Stern. Ladies monthly competition medals: Miss P. Stern (2), Mrs. J. Baker, Mrs. Lester, Mrs. S. L. Graham and Mrs. H. Pope Mr. Downes then mentioned that during the season a "top dogs" competition had been conducted and the winneres were W. C. Higgie and j;. Chambers. These players would hold the trophies for the season. The president also took the opportunity of making a smaU presentation to Mrs. c. Stern for the valued help she had given the club m assisting with the catering arrangements ■ during inter-club matches and tournaments. Competitions conducted during the day were a Canadian foursome which was won by Mrs. Ryder and N. Mabey, and a stableford, won bv Mr. H. Mabey. 1 y
