The United Nations General Assembly rejeeted toniglit sshouted accusations by the Russian bloc that the United States and Britain are harbouring war criminals in Europe's occupied zones. It defeated by 40 votes to seven a motion for the mcorporation of the Soviet bloc T accusations and approved instead by 42 votes to seven a British sponsored resolution which requires Governments desiring the surrendering of war criminals to present evidence as to their guilt. (Mr. Vvsliinsky assailed the British resolution as ''notliing but a mock ery". The British (Minister of State (Mr. Hector (McNeil) retored that the British could not accept a blanket indictnient from anyone. The General Assembly toniglit defeated bv 23 votes to 13 with 17 abstentions a new attempt by the Soviet Union supported by India an i Pakistan to grant non-selfgoverning territories the right to make a direct application for associate membership of the Eeonomics Commission for Asia and tlie Ear East instead of tlirough colonial Powers. Mr. K. (VI. Panniker (India) said' the iiopes raised 111 tlie minds of the Asian peoples of a new and different life tlirough an organised fight against want, unstable economic conditions and soeial evils, would have 110 chauce ot being realised if Indonesia especiallv was outside tlip range of the (Commission 's operations. D'r. J. viui Iioijen (Netherlands) said Ihe Indonesian rejmblie had not sul>mitted an application. If it did the Netherlands would forward it. The General Assembly approved! Dt the Nauru trusteeship agreement subniitted by Australia, New Zealand and Britain by 46 to 6 with Russia among the opponents.
