Received Fridav, 7 p.m. LONDON, Oct. 3l Speaking at Glasgow, Field Marshal Montgomery recalled the achievements of the "51st Highland Division at Alamein. "That Division had arrived m Africa just before I did," he said. "It was reborn from the Highland Division which had had snch a bad time at St. Valery. The new Division was determined that in its first battle it would get its own back for St. Yalery. It was nervous, not nervous that it would not flght bravely in battle, but nervous that it might not do well and might hot do eredit to Scotland. Knowing t-hat, I put it between two very experieneed flghting Divisions — the 9th Australians and 2nd New Zealanders. I will never forget that Highland Division going into battle in the moonlight with their bagpipes playing. I had no fear they were not going to be a eredit to Scotland. They fought magniflcently."
