MARKET REPORT
Messrs. Townsend and Paul, Ltd., Wellington, report that during, the past week the market has taken on a much brighter and more cheerful outlook, the reason for this no doubt being accredited to increased quantities of hothouse tomatoes arriving, together with the first appearance of early plums, bbth these lines being in keen demand, with riiost attractive figures being realised, while passionfruit, tree tomatoes and preferred sizes of New 1 Zealand grapefruit are also .in strong demand. Heavier supplies of most lines of vegetables have been arriving aild meeting with a keen ' demand, particularly green peas, ' asparagus, cabbage and choice lettuce. Cauliflowers during the latter part of last week realised exceptionally high values. In the (lower section steady values are being maintained and consignments are strongly recommended. Quotations are as follows: Hothouse tomatoes, 2/-, 3/6 lb. ; pas'sionfruit, 25/-, 50/-; Meyer lemons, j 10/2; bronze plums, 15A, 20/-; ! tree tomatoes, 25/-; N.Z. grape- | fruit, 1*0/-, 24/6 case; tulips, 1/6, 1 5/6; iris, 3/-, 6/- dozen; poppies, 1/6, 5/6 gross; asparagus, 1/-, 2/1; broad beans, 9d, 1/-; peas, 9d, 1/2 lb.; beetroot, 4/-, 8/-; cabbage, 5/-, 8/-; rhubarb, 6/-, 13/-; leeks, 4/-, 14/6; spinach, 6/-, 15/-; lettuce, choice, 10/-, 15/-; others, ; 5/-, 9/- case; cauliflowers, 5/-, j 30/- ; carrots, 7/-, 20/-; swedes, 7/-, 10/- sack; choice cabbage, silverbeet, pumpkins, new potatoes, onions, ceiling price; parsnips, 8/-, 20/- sack; hothouse cucumbers, 10/-, 24/- dozen.
