Thousands of pouads worth of unprocurable^ dyes and staias were destroyed this afternoon when a fire swept through a varnish and laequer factory in the suburb of Bans Souci, owned by Mr. Albert Oaklev. The outbreak was swift and fierce. Flames leapt 100 feet in the air and exploding drums of spirit were scattered over 200 yards. The '"oo f was blown olf and the force of the continuous explosions demolished the brick walls. Paraffin, totuol and ethyl alcohol fed the flames. Employees having lunch narrowly es'caped serious mjury, the casuulties being conlined to a youth who was struck down by a flying brick. Firemen managed to halt the blaze within a few feet of underground tanks containing S000 gallons of volatile spirits.
