ASKING UNITED STATES TO CUT COLOUR BAR

The counniGtee's re.port urged tne enaccmenc of reuerai anti-iyncmxig, anu-poixax and fair empioynibut pracuice laws and aiso that uongress and the States outlaw segregation and discrimination hased on race, coiotir, creed or national origin, in trains, huses, schools, hospitals, taeatres, hotels, rescaurants, the armed services and private timpioyme'nt, and aiso "restrictive coveuants" whereby property owners hind themselves not to sexi or lease to ' 'undcsirahles." The conunittee says MUnited States isn't so strong, the finai trutmph of the democratic ideal isn't so inevitable, that we can ignore what the world thinks oi" us or our record. ' ' The committee added that a "separate but. equal" idea, as when a State has one school system for whites and another for negroes, ' ' is one of the oatsfcanding myths of American history. It is almost always true that while indeed separate, these facilities are far from equal." The committee aiso criticised "irresponsible opportunists" who maue it a practice to attack as Communists, every person or group with whom they disagreed. The committee concluded: "A state of near hysteria now threatens to inherit the freedom of genuiue democrats.' '
