TRIAL OF PUPPET PRESIDENT IN PHILIPPINES

Received Tuesday, 11 a.m. MANILA, Oct. 20. The long delayed trial of Dr. Jose Laurel, Puppet President of the Phiiippines during the Japanese occupation, opened before the People s Court Tribunal today. A Japanese newspaperman, Koji Nakamura, gave evidence that Laurel had embraeed the "Asia for the Asiatics" ideology. The chief defenee counsel, Senor Clarro Recto, who was formerly Laurel's Foreign Minister, asserted that the late President, Senor Ivlanuel Quezon, himself had not rejected that ideology, and had not intended to deliver the Phiiippines to the occidentals when he subseribed to the United Nations Charter.
