QUESTION OF DAMAGES Acting on instructions fromi! Mr. S. J. Free, of Shannon, Messrs. Fitzherbert, Abraham and Crossrley, solicitors, Palmerston North, in a let'ter received at Friday's meet-. ing of the Horowhenua County Council, referred to injuries received by Mr. Free's daughter while he was a passenger in a school bus on February 11, 1947, when the busallegedly came into contact with one of the council's vehicles. According to their instructions, the accident was due to negligence on the part of one or the other, or both the drivers concerned. The firm advised that Mr. Free held the council liable for damages, and alleged negligence against the council's driver. The chairman, Mr. A. J. Gimblett, disclaimed any responsibility on the part of the council in regard to the accident.^ The council did not know anything about the matter until some time after the accident oecurred, he said. The two vehicles had not actually collided. It was decided to refer the matter to the council's indemnifier.
