RACING CLUBS AND TOTE FRACTIONS
WELLINGTON, Oet. 10. In the House of Representatives, Mr. F. Langstone (Rosltill) renewed the argument he has made on previous oeeasions that unelaimed dividends and unpaid fractions of totalisator dividends, instead of being retained by Racing clubs, should go to the State. He said these amounts should, through the Internal Affairs Department, l)e distributed to all forms of amateur sport which did not have totalisator faeilities, to eontribute to their support. The clubs also enjoved a 2£ per cent. rebate on the totalisator tax with a £500 maximum. Mr. A. S. Sutherland (Hauraki) said the clubs were entitled to retain the amounts and some of the smaller clubs could not survive without them. The horse-breeding industry fostered by racing was wortli hundreds of thousands of pounds to the country. Hon. W. E. Parry replied that the matter would doubtless come within the terms'of reference of the Gaming Commission and comment should be withheld until the Commission reported its conclusions to the Government.
