HASTINGS, Oct. 8. >' Outside buyers, principally from the West Coast, helped to infuse life into the store cattle market at Stortford Lodge to-day. Bids at times did not come too freely, but the auctioneers ultimately obtained prices in aecord with ruiing rates and the general tone was very strong. The large .yarding of 1800 head indicated that the seasonal influx of station bred cattle continues. Included iu the entry were some good quality lines. Good bullocks broug-ht £16 6s to £17 11s, Jighter changing hands at £15 to £15 10s. Three-year steers brought £16 8s, good two-year steers £12 2s to £13 Os and snialler £9 14s to £10 13s. Two-year heifers in forward order made £8 10s to £9 13s and smaller £7 ls to £8 10S. Fair three-year heifers brought £8 14s. With a yarding of only 70 head of beef, the smailest for some weeks, the butchers were active and as a result values were very Jfirm on those of last week. Oonsiderable interest was aroused by a consignnient of 10 very attractively hnished blaclc ox which had had 10 weeks on chou moellier. The offeriug sold at from £22 3s 6d to £26 13s 6d, at average of £25 12s 6d. Otlier prime ox brought £23 6s to £23 13s 6d with unfinished at £18 ls to £19 11s. Priine heifers brought £14 18s 6d to £16 lSs 6d with light heifers at £11 16s to £12 16s. Buyers were again keen in tlieir bid-. ding for store sheep whe'n an entry oi 3000 head included some attractive lines. lioggets iniproved. The woo! prices appeared to be inlluencing fnriu ers in their evaluation and as a resull there was, if anvthing, a hardeninj, tendencv. Top price for woolly wethoi lioggets was 41s 8d obtained for a heavily wooled iine. Otlier wethei hoggets made from 37s 9d to 3Ss ld. Ewe hoggets were in better supply, the best price being 43s for a quality line. Otlier good ewe hoggets sold at 42s ld to 42s lOd and smaller at 39s 7d. Wethers brought 39s Od to 43s 9d. Ewes and laiuiis sold well at from 2(L 4d to 27s 7d for good lines With in ferior at 19s. yhorn sheep were more in evidence in the fat sheep sectioii and sold better than the woolly sorts in a yarding oi 1U0U head. The only spring lambs to come forward were contained in two peus of four. These would probablv have averaged 36lbs. and were passed in at 36s 6d to 38s 9d. Prime wethers sold at from 49s lOd to 51^ lOd, niediuin at 45s lOd to 46s LUd and shorn at 38s lOd to 39s 4d. . Extra prime young ewe.* brought 45s lOd to 47s ld witn les.attractive at 38s lUd and shorn young ewes at 30s ld. Extra heavy ohlei ewes made 39s lOd Prime old ewes were traded at 36s lOd to 37s 10'd, un iinished at 34s ld to 35s 4d and shorn at 25s lOd to 26s 4d. Good hoggets made 12s 4d to 43s, light 38s ld and l)own two-tooth.s 47s ld.
