The New Zealand Federation oi Balters aiid Pastrycooks received sueh a favourabiv hearing from the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Hon. A. H. Nordmever, to tlieir deputation today tliat they inay not hnd it neeessary to put into efl'ect the resolution passed at the conference on Monday, to increase the price of bread as from October 17. When the conference resumed after having seen the Minister this afte'rnoon, the ehairman, Mr. T. H. MeKen/.ie (Invercargill), said they had now to decide what they were going to do al>out the resolution they had earried. He vvould like to know whefher they intended to formulate a policy or not. Mr. H. E. Fairey (Wellington) said they had received a good hearing from [the Minister that afternoon but they had received just as good a hearing a inonth ago and nothing had resulted. Mr. W. >S. N. Rennie (Wanganui) moved that a statement of the interview witli Ihe Minister covering the niatters discussed by representatives of the industrv — increased costs ' of bread wrapping at the bakery, poor •quality of the 80 per cent. extraction of fiour and the need for an early reversiou to Ihe foriner extraction 'rate ot 71-72 per cent., egg pulp supplies anu prices and lack of supplies of dried fruit — be handed to the press. The resolution was earried.
