Orain, claiming a refund of £(iOD in wages which tlie firni states was stolen from the Mangapehi 1'ost Otlice iast Deceinber. Belitioners state tliat the wages of their eiiiplovees at the Horokino sawmill near .Mangapehi, were niade up 111 an envelope enclosed in a registered mail jiackage and tliat tlie ainount claiincd was jiosted to -Mangapehi and received bv tlie postniaster there. As there was no iininediate means of trans pori to the niill, the registered jiackage was jdaced in a. locked drawer overuight. Although there was a safe in the otlice, this was not used nor was the otlice door locked as tliey state the k-y had been lost and not replaced. Betitioners also allege tliat the door was not barricaded. Thev claim tliat the jiackage was takou from the office dnring the night and the Post Otlice had olfered £2 comjiensation, the niaxinniin under the regulations. The petilion concluded tliat the eonipany was liot allowed to deduot from its assessable iiieome for inconie tax purposes, the £(>()() lost.
