PLEA TO KEEP WOMEN'S SKIRTS SHORT
WELLINGTON, Oot. 7. At question time in the House of Representatives,- Dr. A. M. Finlay (North Shore) gave notice to ask the M-inister of Industries and Commerce • for an assurance that an attempt would' be made to persuade the dressmaking trade not to foilow the fashion emanating from Paris, of making women 's skirts longer. Dr. Finlay suggested I that, if co-operation were not forthcoming, a-ny needless waste of materials be prevented' by law. The Parisian nine inehes from the ground fasliion,. lie said, as wel! as calling for more material, would also lead many women to diseard existing serviceable garments simply because they were unfashionable. At least two shops in Auckland had alreadv' d'isplayed longer skirts in their windows.
