FIRST OFFICIAL VISIT
Levin's Plans For Reception Of Governor-General The Governor-General, Sir Berr\ard Freyberg, aceomoanied by Lady Freybei'g, will pay his first official yisit to Levin on Friday, October 31. He will arrive at 10.30 a.m. Announcing this '.today, the Mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, said that arrangements have been made for. a civic receptiqn to Their Exeellencies, 3ir Bernard has also expressed a desire to meet returned service personnel and school children. On arrival Their Excellencies will be met by.the Mayox and Mayoress, . Mr. and Mrs. Burdekin, and the Town Clerk", Mr. H. L. Jenkins. At 11 a.m^ there will be a eombined gathering of school .children in the Horowhenua ColJege grounds or, if wet, in the Regent Theatre. Approximately 1000
children will be in attendance at this function. A guard of honour will be provided by the Boy Scouts; Girl Guides, Cubs and Brownies. At mid-day a civic reception .will be accorded Their Excellencies in the Public Gardens, the speakers at this function bein2 the Mayor, chairman of the Horowhenua County Council, Mr. A. J. Gimblett, !a representative of the Native I'race, and Mr. J. J. Maher, M.P. for Otaki. ' Sir Bernard will informally meet returned service personnel, and will also be introduced to prominent citizens. Their Excellencies will then return to their hotel, where they will be entertained at luncheon by local body representatives and their wives. They will ieave for Wellington at 2.15 p.m.
