Pcrsoiidil Mrs. T. Brennan (nee Miss I'na Taylor) , of Quantico, Virginia, U.S.A., arrived at Auckland by*the Marine Phoenix recently to spend several months in f^ew Zealand visiting her family and friends. She is now staying in Otaki. At a meeting of the Wellington Shakespeanan Society referenee was -made to the death of Mr. Byron Brown, he being referred to as a most vaiued member and one who would be greatly missed. At the recent Trinity College of Music examinations, held in Palmerston North, Donald Clark, a pupil of Miss N. Kiisby, was suecessful in passing . the higher local grade with merit. ~ * No Arrest Yet Although ' the police have made considerable enqyiries no arrest has yet been made in connection with the burglary at Mr. L. G. Lowry's shop last week-end, when goods vaiued at over ]£200 were removed. Health Stamp Saies There was a keen demand for heaitn stamps at the Otaki Post Office on the opening' day. To 5 p.m. on Thursday saies had totallecl £44. Public Works Film By courtesy of the New Zealand Film Unit, films#of several of the Dominion's great public works schemes were screened in the Anglican hall on Weanesday last. It proved an inspiring display, enjoyed by all who attended. Films §uch as those shown bring home the wonders arid possibilities of our own delightful country. Boy Scouts' Exhibition On Saturday, uctooer 18, an exhibition of handcraft will be held at Raukawa dining hali, ana entries close on Octotoer 15. The display promises to eclipse that held, last year, as numerous entries have al~ ready been reeeived. The classes embrace writing, art, needlework, plasticine, models, decorative, etc., both for children and adults. Schedules and entry forms may be secured from members of the committee, or at "The Chronicle" Office, Otaki. Ladies' Bowling The Otaki Ladies' Bowling Club recently held a meeting when it was decided to arrange the opening for Tuesday next. Rinks from the surrounding district and Island Bay are expected to be present. ! Having a number of new members I the club has decided to affiliate with the Wellington Bowling Centre to enable it to play in championship matches if desired. The club's proposed colours, maroon and white, have been accepted. Mesdames Merwood and Manttan ! attended the centre meeting as delegates. -
