ATHLETIC CLUB'S MEETING
KEEN INTEREST DISPLAYED The annual general meeting of the Otaki Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club was held on Wednesday night, the president, Mr. Fred Edwards, occupying the chair. There was a splendid t attendance and considerable interest was displayed in the proceedings. The president welcomed those present and stated that it was gratifying to see such a good attendance, despite the unfavourable weather. He apologised for. the absence of several members, among the number being Mr. B.
Perkins, who forwarded £1 to the club's funds. Mr. Edwards also congratulated Mr. Wilton on his winning the cup and later _ in the i evening made the presentation. It , had been a close contest, the mar-1 gin being a point between first | and second. The president considered the j balance sheet highly satisfactory. j The club had started the season : with £25 7s 6d and now had a credit balance of £54 8s after mak- ; ing a donation of £30 to the ] memorial hall. It had been very; gratifying to see such results, and j next season he anticipated there would be another successful year. Plea-sing reference was made to the several officers who had so capably carried out their duties. Tlie services of the loudspeaker had ■ been appreciated and the sum. of £5 5s donated to Mr. E. Cook for his services. Mr. .Edwards .reported that _ a meeting in regard to the memorial hall had been held and it had been decided to hold a concert on October 29, when donations would be askcd for. Other concerts would follow and it was anticipated that a large sum would result. A hall, ha stated, was badly needed, and
It was expected tnat aii sports bodies would contribute. It was agreed to make a donation oi' £20, with more to follow at a later date. Mr. Edwards also stated that it was hoped that a suit- I able day would be secured for the main sports meeting, January 10 being regarded as the most suitable. It was decided to extend thanks to the Otaki Borough Council for i help given at sports meetings, i Discussion followed and several j members regarded the cycle track in anything but first-class condition at present.
