SITTING OF OTAKI COURT ■ The sitting of the Magistrate's Court, Otaki, on Thursday was presided over by .-Messrs. H. Nicolson and yV. McBeth, J.'s.P,. DangeroUs Driving Sidney C. Schusoer was charged, firstly,- with driving in a dangerous imanner and,. secondly, with failing to . stop r whert requested by an inspector to do so. ;.. Inspector Semple stated that the offence, which was regarded as a serious one, took place in the Waikanae district, where several young men had- been attending sports on

the beach. Defendant was on a motor cycle travelling at an estimated speed of 60 m.p.h., and when requested to stop refused to do so. He gave the alarm by radio and although liis nurnber was taken, he could not be stopped, but continued on at a pace of about 60 m.p.h. Mr. B. H. Rhodes, who appeared for defendant, stated that Schuster had not remembered travelling at such a speed, but when he was requested to stop had got the "wind up" and continued on. He was a youth, and leniency was„ asked for. A fine of £4 was imposed on the first charge and £1 on the second. Court . costs, amounted to 10s on each" charge; Other Traffic Breaches Having no warrant of fitness for a truck cost Percy T. Jervis £1 and 12s' costs. Inspector Davy statedthat the vehicle was not in good order. Charles Goode was fined £1 for driving a car not properly equipped with a hand brake and 10s for having no warrant of fitness. Court costs totalled £1 2s. Inspector Doggett said defendant had produced a warrant which was overdue, while an examination it was found that the hand brake of the car was

practically useless. Ken Bailey paid a penalty of, £1, with 10s costs, for driving a Vehicle without a driver's licence. Inspector Davy told the court that defendant was driving a truck with a load of furniturje. He had recently been tested for a dri-Ver's licence. Ciyil Case Judgment by default was given in the following civil case: C. Sharp (Mr. B. H. Rhodes) v. J. Fitzgeraid, £12 2s 3d^
