Received Friday, 10.59 a.m. LONDON, Oct. 2. The Governments, of India and Pakistan have given all British officers and other ranfcs serving m their armed forces three months notice from October 1, terminating their present contracts. The Times' New Delhi correspondent says that this will not involve an inte/rruplion of the service of those who are offered and accept new contracts with either of the Governments. The recent disorders have convinced both Governments that a Supreme Central Headquarters controlling the British officers in their armies is undesirable, but the Governments will be free to retain the officers as military advisers or unit commanders. The change probably means the termination of Field-Marshal Sir Claude Auchinleck's 40 years' service in the Indian Army. The announcement is a sequel to a statement that Supreme Headquarters is likely to close sooner than was originally intended.
