Court Guarded For Trial Of Captain Farran

Received TTiursday, 9.30 a.m. JERUSALEM, Oct. 1. Captain Roy Alexander Farran, former Assistant Superintendent oi the Palestine Police, pleaded not guilty at a military court to a charge of murdering Alexander Rubowitz, a Jew, aged 16, on the nighi of May 6. Rubowitz was last reported seen being driven away in a car containing three other men, in Jerusalem, on tlfe night of May 6. The court was heavily guarded. The police checked the credentials of all visitors. Prosecutmg counsel, Mr. Maxwell Turner, said that when Rubowitz was last seen he was being chasect by a man and hustled into a car. During the chase the man dropped a hat. In the sweatband of the hat was written the lettersi "FARAN." The police superintendent who had arranged three identification parades teslified that none of the participants recognised Farran as Rubowitz's assailant. He added that neither were ten members of Farran's patrol recognised as being members of the patrol whieh previous witnesses stated had arrested Rubowitz 011 the night of May 6. Sergeant Faulkner. a member of Farran's patrol, who said he accompanied Farran to Syria, stated that Farran told him he was going there because "I liave been let down." Faulkner said the t'rip to Syria was made ai'ter the hat with the initials in the band had been found, and wild lumours abom Farran had begun to circulate.
