SPLENDID EXHIBITION OF FLOWERS

Shannon Women' Division's Annual Fixture

Witli a total of 952 entries tlie Shan11011 brancli of the W.D.F.F. flower show was a splendid success in every way and as a result a goodly suni of money (tlie whole of the proceeds) will be available for sending food parcels to Britain. The compiete area of the hall and part of the stage was artistieally, set out and the well displayed eut flowers were a riot of colour. Tlie bull) seetion particularly sliowed to advantage. Speaking of the sliow, J\Ir. G. Larseu (Opiki), judge of the bulb sectious, reniarked on the wonderfully high quality of the flowers whieli were equal to anytliing he liad seen in any other show and the ehampion bloom, an incomparabilis naiued ' ' Ilosslare ' ' grown by Mrs. J. D. Aitchison, of Opiki, was a real tliampion. Another judge, Mr. li. lioss (Palmerston Nortli), miscellaneous seetion, said that the Ieelaud poppy and 'the polyanthus classes were outstanding in a good seetion and well contested. The deeorative seetions, both aduits' and children 's, were Jarge and very good. Mrs. O. Larsen judged these. Mrs. Hunt, Fitzherbert West, judged the very large liome industries and children 's cooking seetions. Here agaiu tlie exhibits were very good. There was an exeellent needlework seetion. The exquisite workmanship of Mrs. J. W. Newton 's entries was especially eommented upon by the judge, Mrs. W. 8. Lett, Levin. The seetion stewards were as follow: — Bulbs, Mr. J. Oram, M.P., who uus aeeompanied by .Mrs. Oram. Mr. Oram congratulated Mrs. Ouerin, her helpers and the exhibitors on their aehieveiuent and said that he had not expected to see sueli a wonderful variety of work apart from tiie flowers, whieli were beyond praise. There eould be no better objeet than that of sending food parcels to Britain. in the ovening, Mrs. Ouerin, before ealling upon Mr. F. O. Burtt to ]>resent the prizes, thanked Mrs. and Miss Lind for arrungiiig tlie half hour's entertainmeut provided and the performers for their items.
