W.I. FLOWER SHOW

SUCCESSFUL EXHIBITION AT WAIKANAE The first flower show to be held by the Reikorangi - Waikanae Women's Institute since the outbreak of war took plaee last week. It proved to be a popular show and the exhibits were of a very high standard. An especially fine display was seen in the school children's section. The president of the Southern Wellington Federation of Women's Institutes, Mrs. R. Kelso, opened the show and congratulated the members on their enterprising efforts. Mrs. Kelso was presented with a shoulder spray by Mrs. B. Deakin. Prize-winners in the various sections were as follows: — Bulbs: Mrs. Dolman (Waikanae). Cut blooms: Mrs. C. Walker (Te Horo) . Decorative: Mrs. O. E. Nielson (Manakau). Preserves: Mrs. A. Bryant (Waikanae). Cooking: Mrs. G. A. Monk (Reikorangi). NeedleWork: Mrs. W. Burgbss and Miss G. Port (Waikanae) equal. Knitting: Mrs. A. K. Monk (Reikorangi). Vegetables: Mrs. A. L. Brown (Waikanae). Pot plants: Mrs. C. Walker. The champion bloom, "Royalist" was exhibited by Mrs. Dolman. The winner of the points prize, the W.I. Rose Bowl, was Mrs. C. Walker. Mr. Holthouse's points prize for bulbs and Mr. Mclntyre's special prize for six varieties were won by Mrs. Dolman, who also annexed the Angus trophy. All sections carried cash prizes and universal satisfaction was expressed with the judging. The flower and vegetable sections were judged by Mr. W. Russell (Waikanae), the decorative and domestic sections by Mrs. Hay (Paraparaumu) , the needlework and knitting by Mrs. Cameron and Miss Hansen, a-nd the school children b section by Major White (Paraparaumu) . A saies table and white elephant stall were well patronised and a substantial afternoon tea was served.
