CHAPLIN'S NEW PICTURE

Charlie Chaplm's new picture, "Monsieur Verdoux," a comedy of murders, is ready for release in Australia and New Zealand. As "The Great Dictator" was a departure ' from its predecessors, so "Monsieur Verdoux" is a departure from "The Great Dictator," only more so. Gone are the dilapidated pants, the burlesque-hall shoes, in their place striped trousers, even an ascot. _ Gone, too, is the celebrated "Charlie" — a type of bumbling, pathetic clown with a genius for human understanding which lesser actors have perpetuated on the screen, in the theatre, and over the radio for three decades. Chaplin wrote, produced, directed and composed the musical score. The picture is to be released by United Artists.
