EXPERIENCES IN URUGUAY

MJSSIONARY'S TALK IN LEVIN An account of the^methods used in the wprk of . spreadjng the Gospel to those people of Uruguay who show a keen interest in it was given to an interested audience in Ihe Queen Street Hall on Thursday evening by Mr. Goodson, who has returned after eight years of mission work there. A Gospel barriage, open air preaching, tract distribution to homes, as well as indoor services, were some of the means adopted and as the authorities granted religious freedom to all, the missionary was free to move where jthere was a need. In view of the fact that the customs of the people varied from our own, an pnderstanding and carrying out of them was a great help in getting Ahe ear and attention of the hearers. Uruguay, which was situated on the east coast of South America, had an area of 72,000 square miles and a population of nearly '2,000,000, said Mr. Goodson. The people were not black but olive skinned and spoke the Spanish language. The Government was democratic. The climate was hotter than New. Zealand at all times of the year. Uruguay's main products were cattle and rice. At the close of the address the speaker exhibited a 'sample of the tea used by-the people, and showed the method of making it and partaking of it.
