BOWLING SEASON TO OPEN
The bowling seaso-n opens in this district on Saturday. The Paraparaumu Club has shown admirable initiative in improving its premises. Members collected odds and ends of timber, which seemed scarcely worth 5s, but which industrious working parties have converted into a new pavilion 62ft. by 20ft., . with appropriate accommodation for men and women. One member loaned £100 for a piano, and a party of women bid for auction room bargains to provide the furnishings. On Saturday week the Karori, Kelburn, Newtown and Raumati South Clubs will open their season's programme, and, a week later, the Disabled Servicemen, Hataitai, Miramar, Upper Hu% Johnsonville, Hutt, Woburn, Petone, Khandallah, Lyall Bay, Central and Naenae greens will be in use. Kilbirnie and Wellington will follow on October 18, and Waikanae Beach and Vogelmorn a week lcltcir The Wellington City Council has proposals for the provision of two bowling greens on sites to be determined and it is understood that tramways employees will also approach the council fcr the construction of two greens in Owen Street. The competition providedvby the centre has been extended by the inclusion of intermediate pennants in both town and country. The total pennant entries are a record for the centre, being: Senior, 40, intermediate 21, country 6, country intermediate 4, mid-week 20, junior 43. Latest information from Dunedin indicates* that record entries, at least for Dunedin, will be received for the New Zealand tournament commencing on January 12. Reservations show that accommodation will be at a premium. The champion Todga Bay four hasindicated its intention to defend its title, and the pairs . win•liers, W. R., Hawkins and E. P. Exelby, have already entered. The Wellington Centre's representatives will include W. F. Hadwin, with a strong four from the Hutt Club, and J. Lock, former president of the New Zealand Bowling Association, with a Thorndon four. It is anticipated that, if shipping arrangements now under action are favourable, a team, from British Columbia will play in New Zealand in the coming seasoii.
