First Classics Of New Season
(SPECIAL — FROM L.M.M.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The first three-year-old classics of the new season will be held tomorrow at Wanganui and Avondale. The fields for both events are well filled, but with most of the candidates having their second race this term, there is no outstanding' guide to - assist patrons. However, at Wanganui Sweet Nymph, who-has :- scored a win and a third in her last two starts, isthe- ruling ; favourite for the Guineas, mainly because there is'some doubtof Lady Christine, taking her place in the field. Although Franada • has not reproduced his hest forrfi in recent racing there tvill be ' strong supportf or him as he is expected to racfe profninently v - over the mile. Since winning the open sprint on the opening day at Avondale, Shirley Fox has come into strong fayoiir for the Avondale Guineas. Other prosects are Bemonic, Pelias, Niloch and Rozami. On form Shirley Fox shduld be hard to heat.
Racing tomorrow will be conducted by the Carterton Club, at which record fields are engaged, and Ashburton, while the concluding days of the Wanganui and Avondale fixtures will be held. At these meetings a number of summer horses will be making their first appearance this season while several winter gallopers will conclude racing and be turned out for the summer months. The change from winter to spring racing is always difficult to follow and favourites might be unreliable tomorrow. Betting at all meetings will be win and place. Prospects for the four meetings are:
