AUSTRALIA'S BLITZ ON PRICE RACKETEERING

While price inspectors are cleaning up many of the most ilagrant rackets tliroughout the Connnonwealth, there is a liuge lag in the hearing of prosecutionss. I ii the c.ar field alone price blitzing has forced bluckmarketeers to refund over £20.000 to bilked purchasers. Over 3000 proseeutions, however, await hearing. More than 2000 of these are in New Soutli Wales where at least six months commonly elapse between tlie liling of a complaint and tlie hearing of the case. Records show that cluring the first seven months of this year proseeutions averaged 400 monthly. Warnings are issued that some new cars acquired under a Government permit, have been disposed of by their owners at prices considerably in excess of those paid for tliem.
