CRICKET SEASON APPROACHES

\ LEVIN CLUB PREPARES Tlie 20th annual meeting of the Levin Cricket Club was held last night, Mr . F. Veysey occupying the ■ chair in the absence of the presii- ; dent, Mr. E. J. Field. The secretary, Mr. R. Meddings, read the annual report which wa& as foll'ows: — "A& with the previous seasoiT we had difficulty at tira.es in fieMing a full team, and cer- . tainly had the difficulty of fieldtog anything like our full strength. ' This was due in the main to a number of players leaving the dis- j trict. However, the games through- ; out the season were very enj'oyable, : many being closely contested. This i year, with conditions more normal and more young players- available,. . I trust we. will have no- difficulty to maintaining our team at a reasonable strength. "The Weraroa Cl'ub emerged' the winners'for the 1946-47 season,, and we extend our. congratulations to them. The grounds were kept in. very good order onee again and our thanks are due to the Levin Borough Councii for carrying out this work. A number of representative matches were played during the season and the Levin Club supplied a fair proportion of the players for each game-. "The club is in a good financial position in spte of the fact that we had to spend heavily on new gear during last season. The loss on gear ameunted to nearly £13. However, we will recommence the season with a credit balance of £8 10s, an increase of £3 on last year's finances.» The gear this season is in good order, and will not cause a great drain on the club's finances." • Before the election of officers took place, Mr. Meddings infcimated that he would not offer himself for re-election for the ensuing season. The election of officers resulted as follows: — Patron: Mr. D. S. Mackenzie; president: Mr. E. J. Field; vice-presid'ents : Messrs'. L. W. Fletcher,- C. Larsen, J. C. Moodie, H. Baumber, H.
