SALE OF LAND AT OPIKI OPPOSED
The Wellington Rural Land Saies Committee, at a sitting in Palmerston North ye'sterday reserved its decision on an application by B. A. Newnham, of Opiki, for consent to the sale of 60 acres 32 perches of farmland at Campbell Road, Opiki', to Mr. W. R. Gilmpre for a consideration of £3311. Mr. O.'N. Campbell presided and with him were Messrs. G. A. Hansen and R. Downes, Mr. J. A. Grant appeared for the vendor and purchaser, and Mr. P. Connery represented the Crown. The transaction was opposed by the Crown on the-grounds of price only, stated Mr. Connery. Mr. Grant said that the 127 acres owned by Newnham were purchased by the present owner in August, 1944, for £3500. There were then no buildings or other improvements, and the property was overrun by blackberry and scrub, and some of it was still in flax. Newnham had cleared the worst part which was now being sold to Gilmore. The land had been used exclusively for market gardening purposes, and Gilmore, who had been working on the property, intended to use it for the same purpose.
