Press Assoeiation,)

(Per

WELLINGTON, fSept. 9. Last week 2,047,352 gallons of petrol were eon.sumed in New Zealand ■vvhich is eonsiderably less than in recent weeks, said the Hinister of Suppiy, Mr. Nordmever, tonight. Expressing his pleasure at the eonsiderable reduction wliicli had beeu eifected, the Minister said that if tliis downward tendenev continued it appeared we should be able to keep within our allocation without having to resort to coupon rationing. At the same time it should be pointed out that as tlie consumption of petrol tejids to inerease during the summer montlis, it was desirable tlnit the present weeklv consumption should be about 1,900,000 gallons. A small percentage of reduction by users could easily attain this objective.
