AUCKLAND, Sept. 7. Only one title changed hands when the frnals of the New Zealand badminton championships were staged on Saturday night, P. E. Hawksworth (Masterton) and G. A. Pearce (Dunedin), who had held the men's doubles title sinee 1936, beiug defeated by the Auckland champion pair, P. Anderson and B. Wliale, . by 17-^-16 in the fiual set of the most exciting match of thp evening. R. II. Lewis (Auckland) scored a couvincing victory over Ilawksworth in the third set to retain his singles title, and Miss Mavis Kerr (Dunedin.) won the women 's singles title fqr the third timo with a comfortable victory over Miss Naney Fleming (Wellington). ' The 1947 titleholders and results of their final matches are as follow:— Men's singles: Lewis beat Hawksworth, 12—15, 15—10, 15—2. Women 's singles: Miss Kerr beat Miss Fleming, 11 — 5, 11 — 4. Men's doubles: Anderson and Whale beat Hawksworth and Pearce, 13 — 15, 15—10, 17—16. Womcu's" doubles: Miss Kerr and Mrs. Hawksworth beat Miss Fleming and Miss T. Greaves (Wanganui), 9—15, 15—1, 15—9. Combined doubles: Hawksworth and Mrs. Hawksworth beat Anderson and Miss E. Runciman (Auckland), 15 — 1, 15—6.
