FATAL SHUNTING ACCIDENT
YOUNG MAN KILLED AT SHANNON A fatal accident occurred at the Shannon railway yards at 10.23 p.m. on Saturday . night, when Samuel David Kennington, aged 22 years, was killed while carrying out shunting operations. The accident occurred at the south side of the raihvay station, where Mr. Kennington is believed to have slipped while disconnecting a truck from a- southbound goods train. He was a married man with one child, empioyed as a porter at the Shannon station t,although residing at Koputaroa. At the time of his death he was under notice of transfer to Waingawa, and was to have left Shannon next Thursday for his new post. The inquest, which was opened yesterday before the district coroner, Mr. J. S. Moir, was adjourned following evidence of identification.
