The hurdles was won by the Awap uni-trained Park Lig'lit. The day was fine and the eourse in first-class order. Tliere was a large attendanee and the totalisator turnover was £63,697, compared with £61,588^ on the corresponding' day last year. ■

A good field of "eighteen paraded foi" the Marangai Handicap and Robin 's Reward was made a very firm favourite. He was well baek early, but, after making a forward move at the half - mile, he was with' the leaders two furlongs from home and he won deeisively • from Sparkling Lady and Yandra. Lord Theio, Morehu Park, Blanket, Silver Pal, Alright, Sparkling Lady, Yandra, Second' Seal, Dunbar and Dark Morning was the order out of the straight, and Alright and Morehu Park were setting the pace at the six. Passing the four Alright was in front with Sparkling; Lady, Yandra, Robin 's Reward, Dunbar, Dark Morning and Yonettee following. Sparkling Lady, Yan--dra, Robin Reward and Alright weue the leaders into the straight where Robin 's Reward moved up to challenge Sparkling Lady. The issue was not long in doubt and Robin 's Reward drew away to win by over two lengths from Sparkling Lady a length and a half in front of Yandra. Silver Rod liuished fast in fourth place and next home were Alright, Silver Pal, Hulabaloo, Blanket and Lord Theio. Battle Survey was first to break the line in (he open sprint and he ied to the straight ahead of Mangurakau, Tudor Ghief, Aldermau, Playtos and Gzarina. Battle Survey never looked like stopping, but half-way dowh the home stretch Rosswood came with a brilliant run and for a moment looked - like catchiug the leader. Battle Survey linishe'd strongly and he beat Rosswood by a neck. Two lengths away came Deliuquent followed by Drambuie, Lady Cliristine, Alderman and Mangurakau. Stellar, by Te Ilero from Biddy Machree, did noc begin well in the Uebutant Stakes, but vvhen she started to gallop she quickly made up the lost ground and at the iirtish wai going away from pacemaker, Chatton, to win by nearly two lengths. Chatton, by Chatsworth from Star Mark, jumped out smartly and he led into the straight atteuded by Stellar ahead of Saravan and Blue Chief, and Stellar had the race won a furlong from home. Saravau was third a length and a half from Chatton and Blue Cliicf was* under pressure to beat Barlous for fourth. Xext to (inish were Master Doug and Blue Seal.

The winner is raeed in partnership by Messrs. P. A. and T. J. 0;Xeill, the former being the president of the Wanganui Jockey Club. Rarlc Light was made favourite for the hurdles and he won well after being ih front all tlie "\Yay-. Spiro, always prominent, was a good second, and Plahuluk, after4' niis^judgiaig a fence five furlongs from home, got up to beat Denny-'s Gift for third. Through the straight the first time Park Light led from Spiro, Geucral Saleve, Imperial Crpwn, General Lytup, Denuy's Gift a-nd ,St. Nat. Plahuluk was lengths away last, but he commeneed to close the. gap as they tumed into the back. Tlies bad jump eost him souie ground and Park Light, Spiro and Deuny's Gift were in close order as they rau to the last jump. Over the last bit Park Light drew away and won by two lengths from Spiro, two lengths in front of Plahuluk. Denny's Gift, General Lytup and St. Nat were next. Beau Bijou was patiently ridden by C. A. Bowry and, after moving forward to be behind Helenette, Mangatiti and Erinmore 011 the home turn, he went through along the fence to beat Mangatiti by over two leugths. Easteru Rose, about tenth at the livo, finished particularly well to get third inoney two lengths from Mangatiti, and Erinmore was fourth just ahead of Omapai, Helenette, Seawynn and Bouton d'Or in Hue. The start was uneven, and aiuong those to get away in the first division were Helenette, Mangatiti, La Bian, Luelcy Star, Beau Bijou, Paper Rufi'le, Tenacity, Myfox and Eastern Rose. Regal Gem and Pau Walla fought out the finish of the Durie Hack Handicap and the judge could not separate them as they crossed the line. Sweet Xymph was third three lengths away from the dead-lieaters. When the field had settled down Regal Gem was leadiug from Parrier, Pranada, Pan Walla, Sweet Xymph, Paultina and Ivia Ora Katoa, and tlie leaders were bunched into the straight where Regal Gem and Pan WalJa drew away to light it out, A fow yards from the post Regal Gem appeared to hold a slight lead, but Pan

Walla got up to share the honours. Sweet Nyinph was followed by Pranada, Ivia Ora Katoa, Lord Pilot, Paultina and Blue Pier. Easy for Even Light After going into the lead three furlongs from home; Even Light went on to win the Putiki Haek Handicap by three lengths from Middoon, the best part of a length in front of Balintore. Balintore and Mr. Pym led at the six from Matawene, Even Light, Middoon, Gaystock, Nanaaki and Te Ranui. Xranaaki was badly placed on the fence at the three and she had a lot of ground to make up.
