Killed by Log Gun Apparently killed by the explosion of a log gun with -which he was working, Mr. Francis Isaac Milligan, employed on Mr. D. K. Inquest Into Woman's Death A sequel to an accident in which her car became out of control and plunged over a bank at Ashhurst on Sunday, August 10, was the inquest into the death of Mrs. Eustachiam Lee Kerrigan, of Ashhurst, before the Coroner, Mr. C. L. Mowlem, at Palmerston North yesterday. Following evidence of an eye-witness to the accident and the report of Ihe house surgeon at the Palmerston North Hospital, the Coroner returned a verdict that Mrs. Kerrigan died of head injuries received when she lost control of her car and crashed mto a power pole. The Feilding Band • The Feilding Municipal Junior Band, which paraded in Levin last, night comprised youths of from' seven to 15 years of age and is normally led by 10-year-old DrumMajor Fippard. Though it has been in existence for only four years, it has made rapid strides. Playing double bass, one of its complement, D. -B. Dewe-seciifed first place in' the New Zealand open championships at the Wanganui contest this year. There were 76 contestants of all ages in this particular section. The band is equipped with a smart uniform of navy with light blue fa'clngs. Visit to Kapiti Island Several test tubes of wicked looking spiders were collected by two members of the Dominion Museum's staff who returned this week from a.six-day visit to Kapiti Island. Mr. R. R. Forster, entomologist, spent his time looking for spiders, and Mr. R. K. Dell, conchologist, explored the island in a fruitless quest for giant land snails. They were accompanied by three students of Victoria University College and Professor D. H. Gordon who occupies the college's Chair of Botany. Staff members of the museum have not visited the island since 1938. Mr. Dell was convinced that native land snails, which are found chiefly on the Hprowhenua plains and in the northern portion of the South Island, would be dis1covered readily on Kapiti, bUt in this he was mistaken. ,
