SYDNEY'S HOUSING POLICY
Received- Friday.-7.0 p.m. SYDNEY, Sept. 5. The first important step under the State. -Government 's housing poliey to acquire. and demolish Sydney's substandard dwellings, was made when the ■Minister of Housing, Mr. Clive Evatt,; signed resumption notices making tlie State Government the owner of houses and land in the suburb of Redfern. He said that he was arranging temporary accommodation for the people concerned and had ealled tenders for the erection of 72 modern brick flats in the nearby suburb of Erskineville. Children 's playing area and a beautification scheme will be provided.
