GOING WAS SLOW FOR FINAL GALLOPS AT AWAPUNI
Awapuni stables will be fairly well j represented at Wanganui and. the ( final gallops, which took place wide ^ out on the course proper, were run ] under favourable conditions. Among the feature gallops were a mile by Yandra and Ngakoti, five furlongs by Playtos and Tremello, and seven fur- ' longs by Czarina and Argumentative. The going was sJow, and Yandra (D. Collins) and Ngakoti (W. L.'Aitken) j were among the first to work. They ' eovered the mile in 1.52 and were hoine ' nicelv in 41 4-5. Typhoon (V. J. Sellars) and Horouta 1 (C. Eley) were given a "pipe-opener ' ' '• over three in 41sec. Imperial (Aitk'en) went with JSIolly 1 Adair (B. Bowuess) over five in 1.12. Sea Fury (E)eJ') and Gratuitv (V. J. 1 Sellars) were timed to run iive in 1.8, and Nanaalci (Sellars) and Broieiield (Eley) were going nicelv at the end ot a mile in 1.59 3-5. The pace was 011 for the last three in 42 2-5. Langue d'Or (Eley), joined by Torreut (Sellars) at the six, rau a mile in better than two minutes, and he- was timed honie from the three in 42 3-5. Cinereous (Andersonj and Matawene '(L. J. Clutterbuck ) went away from the seven.-furlong barrier and eovered the distance in 1.42. The grey began best and he was still in front at the finish. Eastem Rose (F. Oleaver) and Bo Tez (E. Temperton) worked attractive iy over four in 52, which was good, and Little Steve cut three out in 41 3-5. Tribute (.1. Harris) travelled a mile in 1.58. Tremello (Cleaver), Playtos (R. Urwin) and Tudor Cliief (Clutterbuck) were sent away from short of the five _ and Playtos trailed the other two to the lioiue turn where he went up to finisli with Tremello a couple of-lengtlm in front of Tudor Chipf. They rau the five in 1.6 4-5 and the last three in 41 3-5. Thimble (A. Bowuess) worked kindh over a mile, averaging 15 to the t'ur long, and Voltaie . (Harris) was .kepl with Legendre (D. Amey) over seven run in 1.42. • ' Czarina (Boreham) and Argunienta tive (Aitken) cut seven out in 1.36 2-5 and were together. all the wa}'. The} rau the last three in 42.
