WHITE SLACKS PROBLEM AGAIN FACING SPORTSMEN
The shortage of white worsted sports slacks pertaining during the past few years is likely to be just as acute this season, according tc a survey taken in Levin today. White duck shorts and possibly s limited supply of cotton slacks are the best that -retailers can offei
sportsmen this season. Commenting on the situation ac if would aflect his club, the president of the Levin Bowling Club, Mr. W. C. Childs, sai'd that they fully appreciated the difficulty faclng members and as in the past would not enforce the wearing of the correct uniform — club blazers and white trousers. Naturally, however, they expected all that could to wear them. A good spiritexisted ■ among the players and" when it was necessary for members to travel to take part in Manawatu Centre, Wellington Centre or Dominion Council games in which fche wearing of the correct dress was compulsory, they pooled -wha* slacks and blazers they had. This practise, he believed, was followed in other clubs in the Horowhenua and Manawatu districts. In regard to tennis the effect of the lack of white trousers is not so noticeable as, since the war, shorts have become increasingly popular.
