HASTINGS, Sept. 3. Where quality was offering the market for store eattle at Stortford Lodge today was well up to reeent saies. There were few- passings but these were mainly for inferior lines. Some really good quality lines were included in the offering of 650 head and on these bidding was well sustained. . Bulloeks were traded at £1'4 18s to £i5, two-ofli steers at £9 to £10 10s, yearling steers £7 18s, in-ealf cows £10 10s, two-off heifers £8 10s to £9 10s and yearling heifers £5 10s. Beef recovered last week's drop of £2 to £3 a head when- 170 head were yarded. The entry eont'ained few top pens but there was nothing like the quality of last week. Judging by the strength of today 's bidding there was nothing to suggest that Hawke's Bay butchers were following the lead expeeted at Burnside today where an agreement is stated to have been reached on limit prices beyond which they would not go. Top price for ox today was £26 16s paid for prime bulloeks. Other prime ox sold at £23 3s 6d to £25 Ss Od with medium at £21 3s 6d and unlinished at £15 lSs 6d to £17 3s 6d. Top priced heifers sold at £15 18s 6d, other heavy heifers inade £15 8s 6d and unlinished £10 ls to £12 3s 6d. Heavy A.A. cows reached £16 ls, prime cows sold to £13 13s 6d and lighter £9 lSs 6d to £11 ls. Iiar.ely has the yarding of store sheep at Stortford Lodge been smaller than it was today when only about 500 head came forward. The lack of entries was attributable partly to the fact that farmers did not niuster yesterday because of the storm. Wether hoggets predominated in several small pens olfered and for these there was little variation in the market, values rangiug from 30s 9d to 32s 7d with Dovvn cross hoggets at 29s 3d. A line of forward eonditioned 2 and 4-th. wethers made 42s 6d. Lovv-mouthed empty ewes sold at 19s 4d and a pen containiug 31 ewes and 39 lambs was passed in at 21s Od all counted. Values for fat ewes advanced ls to ls 6d while prices for other classes of sheep were fully lirm. A short yarding of 800 head led to keen competition with extra prime young ewes at up to 44s 7d and prime at 37s lOd to 41s lOd. Heavy older ewes made 35s lOd to 36s ld, prime 34s ld to 35s Id and unlinished 21s 7d to 29s ld. Prime wethers were traded at 45s Jd to 46s ld, medium at 41s lOd and light down to 30s ld. Good hoggets brought 34s 4d to 38s 4d.
