VALEDICTORY FUNCTION

MR. AND MRS. M. RENNER With mixed feelings members of the Otaki Boy Scouts' Committee, with Mr. H. B. Edhouse at the head, in the unavoidable absence of the president, Mr. Frank Rule, met on Tuesday morning to say farewell to Mr. and Mrs. M. Renner, who leave this week to take up residence at Hunterville, where Mr. Renner has been appointed to the State School staff after faithfully carrying out his duties at the Otaki School. Mr. Edhouse, after apologising for members of the committee who were unable to be present, expressed regret that the Otaki scouts were about to part with their scoutmaster, who had served faithfully and well during his residence in Otaki. In asking Mr. Renner to accept the gift of a fountain pen, he expressed appreciation of his work and of the great interest he had taken in the boy scout movement. Mr. Renner, said Mr. Edhouse, had the right ideas which he had put into practice, and the fine work he had accomplished was gratifying to the committee. All were sorry that Mr. Renner was leaving Otaki, but wished him every success in his new sphere. Mr. Edhouse said that Mr. Renner's work as scoutmaster had involved sacrifice on his part, but he had earned the gratitude of the committee and scouts. The speaker also referred to the assistance given by Mrs. Renner and extended thanks to Mrs. Henwood who had entertained at morning tea. Mr. Renner, in accepting the gift, stated that he fully appreciated it and also the many kind remarks made about his work. This he had enjoyed and it was gratifying to kncw what little he had done had been appreciated. He extended thanks to the committee for the help given him, and' trusted that the movement in Otaki would continue to flourish, and the lads continue to make good headway. In leaving Otaki he and Mrs. Renner knew they were leaving behind many friends.
