Heavv snowfalls oc-curred all round Taupo as tlie result of the exceiitionaliy cold snap between midday 'and 4 p.m. By 2 o'clock the Napier road between Rangitaiki and Te Pohue was blocked to all trafiic. The snow was reported to be lying I2in deep 011 parts of the road. The Auckland-Napier service car which left Taupo at 3.30 p.m. with 14 passengers, was turnod back at Rangitaiki. Tliese people, together with a large number of travellers 111 private motor cars, remaiued at Taupofor the night.
