HEAVY SNOW IN TAUPO DISTRICT
AUCKLAND, Sept. 2. The driver and more than 20 passengers had to trudge four miles through snow to the nearcst settlemeiu when two service ears belonging to thb Hawke's Bay Motor Conipany became snowliound 011 the road between Te Haroto and Te Pohue while en routc from Taupo to Napier^ this afternoou. The party j-eached Te "Pohue in good spirits and continued their journey in another . car, arriving at Napier 4.1, hours behind sehc-dule. Heavv snowfalls oc-curred all round Taupo as tlie result of the exceiitionaliy cold snap between midday 'and 4 p.m. By 2 o'clock the Napier road between Rangitaiki and Te Pohue was blocked to all trafiic. The snow was reported to be lying I2in deep 011 parts of the road. The Auckland-Napier service car which left Taupo at 3.30 p.m. with 14 passengers, was turnod back at Rangitaiki. Tliese people, together with a large number of travellers 111 private motor cars, remaiued at Taupofor the night.
