RAINFALL AT OTAKI

During August the rainfall in Otaki was 4.59 inches, the highest fall being 69 points on the 9th. Rain fell on fifteen days. There was cairn at 9.30 a.m. on sixteen days and snow fell on the ranges on four occasions. There were ten frosts and two earthquake shocks, fairly sharp, on the 17th, one at 6.50 a.m. and the other at 8.40 p.m. There was a further shake on the 28th, more prolonged, at 1.40 a.m. There wsa an electrical storm on the 7th. It was a 'fairly average month, with sufficient frosts to be beneficlal, particularly to fruit trees, The rainfall occurred mostly at night. For August, 1946, the rainfall was 5.55 inches, with twenty rain days.
