School Girls Help Hospitals
Valuable help in the wards and pantries at the Auckland, Jliddlemore and Green Lane hospitals is being given by 20 secondary school * girls during their present .term holidays. The girls are from the Auckland, Epsom and Takapuna Grammar Schools and "the Otahuhu and Avondale High Schools. Foufteen are at Middlemore hospital, ten at Auckland and two -at Green Lane working in a variety of capacities. The girls offered their services at a time of the year when the permanent staff is depleted by seasonal colds and are a valuable temporary addition. Chatham Island Cattle 'Quotfng a published report that 6000 head of cattle were shot last year on one .station on the Chatham Islands and were left lying, not even the "hides being removed, Mr. T. L. McDonald (Waliace), in the House of Representatives yesterday, asked the Minis"er of Industries and Commercer what was being dohe to provide a better shipping service between the South Island and the Chathams. The report from which he quoted alleged that much waste of cattle and sheep occurring in the Chathams was due to the irregularity of shipping.
