BIBLE SOCIETY'S WORK

(Contributed) At this season when the gardens of New Zealand and especially those of our own Otaki, thfill us with the beautiful yellow of spring bulbs, the soft pink of flowering shrubs, the charming blue of grape hyacinth, etc., one's thoughts naturally turn to the Great Creator, Whose Divine skill has made this wealth of beauty to speak to us of His beauty of holiness, and Ris Iove to all. The Psalmist has said, "The earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof." In a recent publication from the British and Foreign Bible Society, the world was likened to God's garden, where the qualities that lie behind botli race and colour, make for the endless variety evidenced in human beings, and as the flowers lend their beauty, shape and colour to make our gardens beautiful, so the garden of the Lord is enriched by the variety of strong and true men and women of all races. Flowers/ must have the sunshine, and in like manner men and women must live in the sunshine of the love of God. The Holy Book that tells of this love has been printed in nearly 800 languages by the Bible Society, which desires that people in every corner of God's garden may have the opportunity of reflecting the sunshine and of living in beauty for Him. Since 1827 the British and Foreign Bible Society has supplied Scriptures in Maori, and 175,000 copies have been distributed. At present a careful revision of the Maori Bible is being carried out and will be printed in due course. Foreign languages issued in New

Zealand for residents in our land average several hundreds of copies per year. Scriptures in the English language are sold so cheaply that the poorest of our. people, and those in most remote settlements, can procure them without difficulty. There is a great annual saving to purchasers of the cheap Sunday School edition of the Bible, and many thousands of Gospels and Testaments are sold at about half their cost price. New Zealand's overseas missions and missionaries. are regularly supplied with the Holy Scriptures.
