LAND SALES ACT BREACHES
AUCKLAND, August 26. . Fines totalling £970 -were imposed by the Magistrate, Mr. J. H. Luxford, in reserveil decisions today on two cases of Iireaches of the Land Bales Act, in eaeh of which it xvas alleged that secret payments were made above the land saies valuation. On a charge of scheming in ccntravention of the iServicemen 's Settlement and Land Saies Act, George Lambert Bruce Whillans, the vendor of the property conccrned, xvas ffned £500, which in-c-luded the £100 preseribed by the? Act, and £-K)0 wlrich - it — was alleged was secret ly paid to AVhillans by the purchaser, AYilliam Xorman Waite. AVaitc was granted a eertiiicate for a refund of £275 from the line imposed on Whillans. A land agent, James Williams Haydon, who was jointlv charged with' Whillans. was lined £100 and his land agent 's licence xvas cancelled. In a seconcl decision Mr. Luxford lined William James Adams £370. It was alleged that he proeured a secret pavment of £270 above the land saies price from David William Gray for a property at Silverdale. A refund must be made to the informant of £170.
