AUCKLAND, August 25. The manager of the Northern Stcanisliip Co., Mr. E. J. Hewitt, aged 43, received serious injuries wlien the car he was driving from Auckland to Thames becamc out of control in loose metal between Pokeno and Maramarua and overturned into a swamp. lle was accompanied by his. wri±'e, Mrs. Eileen Hewitt, aged *30, and his daughtcr, Yvoune Hewitt, aged seven, botli of wliom received concussion. Late tonight Mr. Jlewitt 's condition was reported to be very critical while that of Mrs. llewitt and daughter was not serious.
